It’s winter, right? This year, in some places you can only tell by looking at the calendar.
On the first Friday in Feb a group of friends converged on Lake Placid to partake of some ice climbing and to enjoy each other’s company. While the weather and ice coverage wasn’t quite ideal, the companionship was.
We spent Saturday climbing at Lock Ness, with three ropes set up on climbs with a wide range of difficulty. The ice was climbable, but certainly not as thick as one would expect for early February.
On Sunday we set up for a half day in Chapel Pond Canyon. Two ropes were set up and everyone got at least 1 lap of climbing in before we parted and made the trek home.
I collected some video footage and threw together a short edit showcasing the climbing:

Two of the folks on the trip were two brand new ice climbers. I believe both of them are now hooked on the sport. Welcome to the dark side!

Katie Levy has also written up a short trip report on the weekend. Check it out!
