I am a 2nd year graduate student in the University of Virginia Department of Astronomy. In addition to my coursework and TA duties, I am working with Mark Whittle on jet-gas interactions in Seyfert galaxies. My main research interests relate to the interaction between AGN and their environment. In May 2006 I graduated with a BS in physics from The Rochester Institute of Technology. I also received minors in Astronomy and Mathematics. I spent an additional year there working on a MS in Imaging Science. My coursework for the MS has been completed, and I am finishing research for my thesis. Also, during the summer of 2007, I spent 10 weeks at ASTRON studying neutral hydrogen in radio galaxies which show evidence for star formation. While at RIT I worked with Chris O'Dea and Stefi Baum. My research focused on analyzing and comparing (optical and radio) images of powerful Radio Galaxies. The results have been published in the Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. In the past, I have volunteered at the RIT Observatory doing imaging of Cataclysmic Variables and asteroid occultations. At UVa I help out with public nights at The Leander McCormick Observatory and Fan Mountain Observatory. |
