First James Webb Space Telescope Observations of GOALS Galaxies

The James Webb Space Telescope has been providing images and spectra of a wide range of astrophysical phenomena. Prior to the launch of JWST, the Great Observatories All-sky LIRG Survey (GOALS) was awarded an “Early Release Science” program on four galaxies with extreme star formation and and/or supermassive black hole growth. Shortly after the completion of comissioning we started receiving and analyzing data. The first five publications resulting from these data have been submitted to the Astrophysical Journal Letters and are under peer review. These studies examine star formation, black hole growth, and the physical conditions of the gas in galaxies, over three different interacting galaxy systems. Preprints for the papers are available:
